Swing Riot Dunedin is a community organisation that promotes the learning, teaching and dancing of vintage swing dance styles. Swing Riot regularly performs at public events in Dunedin; they also host the Dunedin Midwinter Swing Festival over Queen's Birthday weekend.
Swing Riot's dance teachers have gained a great reputation for enthusiastic and fun classes, accessible to even the newest dancers. This weekend they're hoping to share more of this magic in a series of workshops that will give you everything you need to dance the night away!
Swing dancing evolved in the early 20th Century alongside jazz and swing music of the 'big band' era of American history. As well as Lindy Hop, Charleston, Shag, and Balboa; Swing Riot teaches Blues dancing. Blues dance evolved alongside Blues music, finding its roots (like Lindy Hop) in the African-American culture of the time.
