I have been playing in live bands since I was a school. It was ska, punk and
new wave back then. The music changes but the challenge stays the same, we want
to move people's feet and their heads and hearts too. I have played guitar and
keyboard and sung in covers bands in Canterbury and Otago, most recently in
"Basket Case" and "Latin Melt". I love bringing the music to life and finding
new grooves that I hope others will love too. My latest project is to bring
some great Latin music to the people of Otago with the help of my friends in
"Plastico".

I started my music journey as a youngster playing drums and singing in a church
choir in Porirua in the 1960s...In the 70s and 80s I played kit and sang lead
and bvs in a family band playing top 20 songs with an emphasis on 3 and 4 part
harmony. We sang in local pubs, halls and function centres around Porirua,
Wellington, the lower NI of NZ and occasional jaunts further afield, we even had
a stint in Hawaii US. I joined soul, funk and blues cover bands in pubs and
clubs around Wellington, including "South side of Bombay", "Roy Jacobs Blues
Band", "Holiday Makers" and Jackie Clarke, who went on to fame with "When the
Cat's Away".
In the late 90s I shifted to the lower SI. joining cover bands in Gore and
Invercargill, which involved playing country music frequently at the Gold Guitar
Festival, also big band swing in Invercagill with the likes of the "Crazy Rhythm
Big Band" and small jazz combos like "Southern Dixie" also pub and club music
with a group that won Southland band of the year, backing people like Suzanne
Prentice, Eddie Lowe and other great NZ artists. I have also played and toured
NZ with Russian guitarist Alexey Medvedev in an accoustic duo "Ayejoe".
In the last 14 years I have been involved with a dedicated soul, funk, disco &
r&b group called "Soul Deep" playing around Dunedin and about and now I am
getting started with the Latin American ensemble we call "Plastico"
