Calder Prescott & The 18-piece Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra (DCJO) 


                                     CALDER PRESCOTT MNZM,  Musical Director and Founder.

The DCJO was founded in 1988 by Calder Prescott, the present Musical Director. It has performed in England, at the Montreux
Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Germany, The Netherlands, the West Coast USA,  Sydney. In New Zealand, Invercargill, Queenstown,
Alexandra, Ranfurly, Oamaru, Christchurch and of course, Dunedin.  The DCJO’s specialty is the music of the Glenn Miller Orchestra,
and the music of the Swing Era.

Their Musical Director, Calder Prescott MNZM, is a well known and respected Jazz performer, arranger, conductor and educator.
He has led Big Bands in New Zealand, as well as in Dunedin, continuously since 1956. His other musical interests are the Logan
Park High School Jazz Band (Dunedin) – Musical Director since 1983 – , his Jazz Octet, South City Six Dixieland Group, Jazz Quartet,
and his Jazz Piano playing and Teaching.


A gifted Arranger and Orchestrator, he has contributed many fine Arrangements to the musical libraries of the DCJO and the LPHS
Jazz Band.

 His motto and creed is derived from the Duke (Ellington).  “IT DON’T MEAN A THING IF IT AIN’T GOT THAT SWING.”
